A Perfect Valentine’s Day in Vail

 In Vail Experience

The perfect Valentine’s Day in the mountains is an all-day affair with skiing or snowboarding, snowshoeing, spa treatments, and dinner! Although Valentine’s Day falls on a Wednesday this year, it’s actually the perfect mid-week ski day with shorter lift lines. For those of you with an Epic Ski Pass – you will earn the “Ski Heart” EpicMix Pin to your collection when you ski or snowboard on Valentine’s Day.

Be sure to take your sweetheart to Lovers Leap in Blue Sky Basin, where it’s rumored a Ute brave and Arapahoe Indian maiden leaped to their death rather than be separated. Don’t worry – there is a safer way around! For the less adventurous, ski down scenic Cloud 9 through beautiful groves of pine trees and intermediate terrain.

If skiing isn’t on your agenda, try an easy snowshoe or cross-country skiing at the Vail Nordic Center located 1 mile east of the lodge. You’ll enjoy the fresh air, cardio, all while taking in a breathtaking view of the Gore Range. The perfect backdrop for a photo with your Valentine!

When you have finished your daytime adventure, unwind with a massage or body treatment at the Vitality Center in Vail Village. Their co-ed lounge has comfortable lounge chairs looking out at Vail Mountain and the Gore Creek. Make time to use the sauna, steam room, and perfectly situated outdoor hot tubs before or after your spa treatment.

Before dinner, stop by Terra Bistro for a libation crafted with Colorado liquor. Doors open at 5:00pm and you’ll have an hour to enjoy happy hour prices on beverages and small plates. The dining room at Terra Bistro is intimate and perfect for such an occasion as Valentine’s Day. Their restaurant is an inviting, upscale New American eatery serving up unfussy yet creative dishes with local ingredients. They also have vegetarian and vegan options helpful for those on a more restrictive diet. Reservations recommended: 970-476-6836

If you’re looking to explore Vail Village, here is a list of a few additional bars and restaurants you may enjoy for Valentine’s Day located a short walk from Vail Mountain Lodge.

Root and Flower – A modern wine bar offering over 50 vinos by the glass, plus a menu of New American bites. Open 2pm-12am daily
Russells – Classic steakhouse featuring an intimate vibe, wine list, and full bar. Opens at 6pm daily
Matsuhisa – A High-end destination for Japanese fusion fare & sushi served in a post setting with dramatic views. Opens at 5pm daily
Almresi – Rustic mountain cottage-style décor sets the stage for festive German, Austrian and Swiss fare. Open for lunch and dinner

Bonus for the day, having flowers delivered to your residence or restaurant in advance. There are a variety of flower shops who deliver throughout the valley, but we recommend A Secret Garden which is located a short walk from Vail Mountain Lodge.
